Inspiration

In the studio at Stone Barns the texture of the landmark oaks can found here. And even though this #blackasacolor piece isn’t finished it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see the comparison. Just look at the video on the right. @hthillgalleries

This was one of the photos that inspired “Fog” found in the Landscape Reordered gallery. If you flip it upside down you will see how the painting developed.

A difficult hiking trail looms above.

BABY SEASON! And who doesn’t love babies! They’re as interested in seeing you as you’re in seeing them.

The texture of ancient oaks gives me lots of ideas for layering the canvas with paint. @hthillgalleries - The barn window at the end of the video inspired the structure for the series painting called Stone Barn V. #coloryourworld

As you may have guessed, this is a reflecting pool and constant inspiration. Before the cows arrive the grasses grow to such a height that they could become a wildfire risk. So grazing, then mowing give it another interesting dimension. @slconservancy

A landmark oak zeros in on lines and lighting that create fabulous contrast. Natures colors. This beast breathes.

Pumpkin scratching at the Santa Lucia Preserve “Hacienda Garden” allows for a little branding fun. Stone Barns meets fall colors. #coloryourworld @slconservancy

Inspiration for a large canvas in development. The primary colors are a mix of Ultramarine blue, Alizerin red and greens with of course Titanium white. It’s in the process of being sanded to see what’s under the countless layers of color.

Turning the corner and seeing colorful wild mustard fields are a stimulating surprise. “Pass the Mustard” paintings were born. A no-brainer.
